Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello HP world,

I don't know much about graphic card but I have decided to upgrade my current card. I found  Nvidia GTX 1050, but I am still unsure of whether the gtx 1050 is physically and virtually compatibale with my Hp Pavillon p6218f. So I am hoping in this forum I can get help from advanced pc users to enlighten me ony my choice.

I am trying to upgrade my graphic card from ATI Radeaon HD 4650 to NVIDIA geForce gtx 1050
The NVIDIA INCLUDES:

  • Outputs: DisplayPort, HDMI & DL-DVI
  • Interface Type: PCI Express 3.0
  • Dimensions: 160mm x 111.15mm

NVIDIA'S SPECS INCLUDES:

Chipset

  • Processor Type: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050
  • Core Clock Speed: Information not available
  • API Support: DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5
  • Max Resolution: Information not available
  • CrossFire Support: Information not available

Memory

  • RAM: 2GB
  • Clock Speed (effective): 1354 MHz
  • Type: DDR5

Outputs

  • HDMI: 1
  • DVI: 1
  • VGA: N/A
  • Display port: 1
  • Interface Type: PCI Express 3.0

System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10 / 8 / 7
  • Power Supply: 300 watts

Dimensions

  • Height: Information not available
  • Width: 111.15mm
  • Depth: 160mm

My current processor is an AMD Athelon  11x 3 425 triple-core

with 8GB DDR3 system memory

1terabyte hard drive.

The voltage of my cpu is 300W Max

The main reason for my upgrade is to have better gaming and video quality that is up to date with today's standards, at least to a minimum (Like to play destiny 2).

Thanks,

@Sammaur, welcome back to the forum.

The GTX 1050 is not comptatible with the motherboard in the computer.  The newer cards require UEFI in the motherboard instead of a Legacy/standard BIOS.  HP didn't begin using UEFI until mid-October, 2012 with Win 8.  The last cards to not require UEFI are the GTX 660/670 series.

Your best option is to choose a manufacturer and contact their Tech Support for help with choosing the best card for your system.  This will save you time, frustration and money.
