Hi there,
I gave this pc to a family member after reinstalling Vista from original disks. What we would like to know is if it is still possible to purchase a legal copy of Windows 7 for it. If not, what would be best, buying a copy of Windows 8.1 or jumping straight to Windows 10?
Thanks

Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum.
Based on the information here >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-a6000-Desktop-PC-series/3644673/model/36...
HP does not officially support Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 - only Vista - on this computer model.
Therefore, if you install newer Windows, there may be some incompatibility re. missing drivers, incompatible hardware... something may not work properly.
However, if you want, you can create a copy of your data and you can try with Windows 10. Althought it's not officially supported, Microsoft might have drivers and it might install. You can get free 90-day trial version of Win 10 Enterprise edition from here and test for free for 90 days >> https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/evaluate-windows-10-enterprise
Post installation of Windows 10, here is how to install drivers using Windows Update and Device Manager >> How to >> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03330139
If Windows 10 does not work, you can always revert back to Vista (using the original disks you mention).
Hope this helps.
