HP Pavilion HPE h8-1090t CTO Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I upgraded to Win10 a while back now, but for some reason it upgraded from Win 7 Pro to Win 10 Pro N. The N version is a European version (I think), and I'm in the US. Lots of little things, like Windows-Shift-S don't work (this is actually among the more annoying), but there are others.

If I try to enter/re-enter my Win7 Pro activation key - through the Settings | Activation menu, it claims the Win7 Pro product key I entered didn't work. It is as exactly printed in the original stick on the side of the PC.

How can I force this PC to change from "Win 10 Pro N" to "Win 10 Pro"?

hi

https://www.easeus.com/knowledge-center/windows-10-pro-vs-pro-n.html

normally there are some small differences, but not very important it seems
What I find curious is how would you have gone from a standard version to this type of version?
what method did you use
When I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10, I automatically received the same version
What it would take is to reinstall windows 10 completely, most certainly

i found something, but in french

What caused it to be 'N'?

Probably I was inattentive. I originally had 2 big drives (in fact they were 5 serial #s apart). The boot drive failed, thankfully, since my data drive was not [at the time] consistently being backed up.

Swapped in an SSD so it looked like a fresh install. If it asked me to choose, I somehow overlooked it. And I didn't notice for a while - hmmm, where's media player, but then when screen-clipping didn't work with Win-Shift-S I looked into it. I tried once to wipe it and install again, but it somehow remembers, so I only get the N version back.

I'm not looking forward to some other kind of full-wipe and the days of reinstallation - hoping there is a short-cut that can be found.

I'll review the details on that link later tonight. Thanks

Update: from one of the links to another discussion thread, it recommended changing two registry keys. Mine do not have the N.

ProductName=Windows 10 Pro

Yes, indeed, that's it if I remember (not read the thread in question)
But read again if you can understand, because at one point it seems to me that it was a failure, but I did not quite understand what the problem had been.
