Hi @Doris224

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your OMEN 880-160se laptop is having trouble booting after a BIOS update, and you're seeing the "Boot Device Not Found" error. This typically indicates a problem with the system's ability to detect the hard drive or boot device, potentially due to the BIOS update causing some sort of conflict or corruption. Here are several steps to try and resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

Before diving into more complicated solutions, it’s always a good idea to start with a hard reset.

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Unplug the power cable and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power cable (and battery, if removed) and try to power the laptop back on.

This may reset some basic settings and allow the system to boot properly.

2. Enter BIOS Setup

The BIOS update might have caused the system to lose track of the boot order or boot device settings.

Power on the laptop and immediately start pressing the ESC key repeatedly (or F2 on some systems) to enter the BIOS Setup.

Once in the BIOS, look for the following settings:

  • Boot Order: Ensure that your primary hard drive or SSD (where Windows is installed) is selected as the first boot device.
  • Boot Device Configuration: Verify that your hard drive or SSD is listed as an active boot device.
  • Secure Boot: If it's enabled, try disabling Secure Boot to allow more flexibility with boot devices.
  • Legacy Boot: Try enabling Legacy Boot (or UEFI Boot if you were using that).

After making any necessary changes, save the settings (usually F10) and restart the laptop.

3. Run Diagnostics from BIOS

You mentioned that the system said "current version of diagnostics not found." This suggests there might be a corruption or problem with the diagnostic tools on the laptop. However, you can still try running a basic hardware diagnostic:

  1. After powering on the laptop, press ESC repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.
  2. Select F2 to run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (if it’s available).
  3. Run the Hard Drive Check to see if it detects any issues with the drive or any other hardware problems.

If the diagnostics can’t run, it may indicate a more serious problem with your laptop's hard drive or BIOS configuration.

4. Perform a BIOS Recovery

Since the BIOS update might have caused the issue, you can attempt to recover or reflash the BIOS.

Download the BIOS Recovery file:

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your laptop's model (OMEN 880-160se).
  • Download the latest BIOS version for your laptop.

Create a BIOS Recovery USB Drive:

  • On a working computer, insert a USB flash drive (at least 1GB).
  • Copy the downloaded BIOS recovery file onto the USB drive.
  • Insert the USB drive into the faulty OMEN laptop.
