Hi there - I have a brand new Omen 35L (GT16-0040na) - Intel Core Ultra 7, 32GB RAM, GeForce 5060 Ti, etc.
The only change from stock is: I upgraded to Windows 11 Pro via the "About Computer " panel, and I added a 3.5" HDD.

My issues is: the computer won't go to sleep. It never has. It's only a week old.
If I wait for the default 5 mins OR I choose the "sleep" option, it will power off the keyboard, and the screens, and the HDD (you can hear it spin down) but it doesn't then continue on to sleep.

I know that Modern Standby (State 0) means that it can take up to 20 mins to enter an actual sleep state, but that never happens - if I leave the PC, it will stay on all the time.

Things I have tried:
1) Changing settings on all USB Hubs to either a) not allow the PC to control power and b) not allow them to wake the computer
2) Changing the settings on HDD to not allow it to wake the PC
3) Trying the Registry Hack to force Level 3 state sleep (i.e. disabled Modern Standby) - this just causes the computer to enter a boot loop where it hits a Kernel 41 panic whenever it goes to sleep, and then reboots
4) Changing power plan settings to allow for sleep
5) Unplugging all USB devices other than keyboard and mouse
6) Unplugging all USB devices including keyboard and mouse
7) Removing the 3.5" HDD
😎 Removing HP Omen Gaming Hub and Lighting apps
9) Upgrading firmware (I was already on latest version)
10) Upgrading to latest Windows 11 updates
11) Finally, resetting the PC back to stock Windows 11 Home via the BIOS Reset option - still doesn't go to sleep

Do I have a faulty PC? Does anyone else have an Omen 35L of similar spec that *does* go to sleep?
Anything else I can try?

At the mo, I just shut it down at the end of each day.  I *could* try hibernate, but I'd rather get sleep working.
And yes, I'm on the latest firmware, I've tried a factory reset to the vanilla version (see points 9 and 10 and 11 above).
Any help much appreciated!

Dourn.

Greetings @Dourn

Welcome to the HP Forum.

The Windows January 13, 2025 Security update, KB5074109, has been causing all kinds of Windows problems.

Try uninstalling this update if you have the 1-13-25 update. You may have a different problem. But since your PC is only a week old it is possible the 1-13-25 update is causing sleep problems.

I had a sleep problem and unfixable system file corruption when running the "SFC" command after installing the 1-13-25 security update.

I uninstalled this update. Microsoft then later pushed a modified update to the PC again.

Not having any sleep problems or system file corruption since the second update.

Thanks Bill_To.
So yes, I had KB5074109 installed.
And then MS released KB5078127 on the same day I got the PC which is the fix for that one as you mentioned, and got installed when Windows downloaded updates after setting it up.
I noticed in the release notes it says:

So maybe that was it. But sleep still doesn't work.

But now you can't remove KB5074109 anymore, once you have KB5078127 installed.

I've tried sfc (which reported no issues), but I'll try a DISM (DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth|) as well just in case that helps.

Thanks for your post!

Greetings @Dourn

My pleasure.

Yes, I also had KB5078127 installed which did not help.

Disconnect from the network. Remove KB5078127.

Then you can remove KB5074109.

Reconnect to the network. Windows update will reinstall KB5074109.

Your PC may have a different hardware issue or low level firmware issue if doing the above does not fix the sleep problem.

You've done very good troubleshooting so you may have to contact HP Support if you can't fix the sleep problem.
