When I am using my usual three windows open at the same time (one on the left, one in the middle, and one on the right) the widows will close by themselves unexpectedly.

Hi @lbrucegray

Welcome to the HP Support Community. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

I see that the Windows on your system opens unexpectedly and closes by themselves. Do not worry, we are here to look into it and help you with it.

May I know if you have made any recent hardware or software changes to it?

Could you tell me if it only happens when you boot your system to Windows?

Have you updated the drivers of your system? If not, please use the link here and update all the drivers. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_2857204-2362249-16

Along with that, please update the Windows and let me know the outcome of it.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

This has been going on for several months now. I've been having this problem long enough.

I checked every single driver. Every single one shows current.

I don't have any other OS on this system except Windows 10.

I'm running the latest Win10 update from Microsoft.

I'd post a screenshot of the "before" screen I made, but I don't see a way to do that here.

I use three open windows all the time. One is for my left-hand external hard drive, one is for my right-hand external hard drive, and one is for my "downloads" window. I put the files needed in both hard drives for extra security in case one crashes completely. Seemingly for no reason at all, all three vanish and I have to put them all back again.

Any other ideas?

In that case, I would suggest you Boot into safe mode with networking and check if the issue persists in the safe mode.

If the issue still persists, you have to perform the recovery.

Let me know the outcome of it.
