HP Recommended

Hard drive is toast. One expert said it was the result fo an overheated system. BUT I am desperate to recover data from the hard drive. Geek Squad worthless. I cannot believe this is the only time a computer like mine has this problem. How do I recover data.

HP Recommended

If there is no physical damage to the drive then possibly the data can be recovered.

Physical damage is typically broken heads or scored tracks on a mechanical hard drive.

It could also be failed components in the PCB of the mechanical or SSD drive.

 

Typically, if you connect the defective drive to a USB adapter and a PC recognizes the drive name then it is likely some of the the data can be recovered at a minimal cost.

 

What did the geek squad say about the drive?  I assume they  tested it.
