HI All,

my PC stop starting after few failed start ups.  took to bestbuy and was advised that the MB is faulty. I have bought OEM MB Carmel same as the original. But it still won't start. seems to be MB is not the problem.  I have tried removing RAM and also tried one piece of RAM in different combinations between 2 RAM stick. But it still won't start.  Hard drive is still working. I have tried replacing PSU as well. the only thing I did not try is CPU but bestbuy said it is MB.  I am not sure what I am missing. Can anyone help me figure this out.  I really need this computer for kid's school and dont' want to spend too much money on new one not only spending but also reusing the one I have.  Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome back to the forum.

This is a tough situation given the age of your PC. Possible causes for this issue are:

 

Power supply

Motherboard (MB), the replacement motherboard could be bad

Processor (unusual with Intel CPUs, but possible)

Bad RAM

Bad graphics card

Power switch and or power assembly (PCB or wiring)

Component short

Incorrect or missing internal cabling or a bad external cable (the PC starts but you have no video output)

 

You have to troubleshoot each possibility until you find the fault.

 

I would try each MB at a minimum config (only connect power supply and use onboard graphics) to see if you can get any POST error codes such as "no RAM or no system disk". Then add one component and test for a good POST

 

You changed the PSU and the motherboard. Look at the power switch. Or try shorting the MB power switch pins to see if you can POST this way using a minimum system configuration (bypass the power switch). Just be careful to short the correct MB pins or you can damage each MB.
