Hello,
My OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-153na keeps freezing at random intervals when left unattended.
I have never found it to do this whilst I am using it; just when it is not used. It can sometimes freeze as quickly as 5 minutes.
The PC was only bought in December and has been doing it shortly after arriving.
It only does it when the PC is not in use. The screen is frozen to whatever I was last doing.
It does not matter whether programmes are running or not.
It does not occur if I am watching Netflix or videos.
The hard drives have over 200gb SSD free and 1.5TB HDD free
Inter(R) Core(TM) i7-9700K CPU @ 3.60GHz
16.0GB RAM
Any help to stop this happening? It is driving me crazy, and I know its not good for the computer to force shut down again and again.
Kind regards,
Brandon

Greetings,
Welcome to the forum.
I am not a HP employee.
This symptom can be caused by flaky hardware or corrupt drivers or system files. Faulty RAM, or a failing HDD, or a failing power supply or a faulty system board can cause this behavior. Bad hardware is easier to troubleshoot. Software/driver issues can be tough to pinpoint.
Can you recall how long you used the PC before this started happening? Seeing this problem at first boot would suggest a hardware problem. Or seeing this within days after first use with no operating system modifications would also suggest a hardware problem.
Check hardware:
Tap "ESC' at startup.
Select "F2".
Run hardware (system and component) tests.
Check system file integrity:
Open an Windows administrative command prompt.
First run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Then run:
sfc /scannow
I would then contact HP Support (Link) for warranty service if you can't isolate the cause.
HP Support may tell you to back up data. Then do a factory reset using HP Recovery Manager or external factory recovery media.
