HP Envy 750
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When I try to restart my PC in Sfae Mode, it shuts down.

I perform the following steps below - after Step 4 "Restart", the PC restarts, but after a few minutes of blank screen, it powers off.

I've tried this many times. I checked my HDD, Anti-virus, etc.

--------------------------------------

  1. The Choose an option screen opens. From the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot.
Figure : Choose an Option screen with Troubleshoot selected
  2. Click Advanced options.
Figure : Troubleshoot screen with Advanced options selected
  3. Click Startup Settings.
Figure : Advanced options with Startup Settings selected
  4. Click Restart.

At power-on time, did you launch the HP Hardware Diagnostics, and run the tests against the RAM and the disk-drive?

From an "elevated" command-line prompt, did you enter:  CHKDSK C: /R

and reboot, and let it check all the blocks on your disk-drive?

This can take hours to check literally millions of blocks.

Thanks, that worked - eventually. After rebooting to run chkdsk, I was getting a blank screen. Eventually I tried moving my HDMI monitor cable from it's usual input to another and was able to view the screen. Chkdsk found no issues and I did  get to reboot into Safe Mode after that. HP Disagnostics did not find any issues.

My Windows Updates are still failing, but that's beyond the scope of this thread.

Open "Settings".

Within the input-area, type: trouble

One of the available options will be to run the "Windows Update Troubleshooter".

Run it.

Thanks, I did run "WIndows Update Troubleshooter" a few times, it did not make a difference. I have the error message written down aty home, I'll update the ticket later if you are willing.
