- Getting: Recovery Your PC couldn't start properly. The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File /windows/system32/winload.efi Error code 0xc0000225

To be extra careful you might want to also remove the boot drive. Connect this drive to a different PC as a data drive. You can then copy files in the User folder to the host PC. This should work unless HP has enabled Device Encryption. Device Encryption can cause problem mounting the drive if you don't have the BitLocker Recovery key.
This would give a second copy of data as a backup if it works.
