PC does not shut down

Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Envy desktop installed February 11, last.   After about a week, PC would not shut down by command from start menu icon or from taskbar icon.  I called HP Support and was instructed to disconnect the power cord and hold the start button in for 20 seconds.  That seemed to cure the problem but then it returned.  Now, from shut down command PC will not shut down or sometimes it will shut down 20 minutes after command.
