I have a HP Pavilion TP01-3175 ND, and I have connected a USB hub 7 ports to it. I have then connected external drives to this Hub, but the computer always freezes when I try to back up to the external drives. The hub is power generated as well. Any Idea what the issue might be and what I can do to resolve it.,?

These are all the possibilities
If your Windows PC freezes when backing up data to a USB drive, the most likely causes are a faulty USB drive, outdated drivers, a corrupted USB port, a failing hard drive on your computer, insufficient disk space on the USB drive, or a problem with the backup software itself; try checking the USB drive's health, updating drivers, trying a different USB port, and ensuring sufficient space on the drive, or updating your backup software to the latest version |
When you say the PC freezes, does it show a blue screen? Do you have to reboot?
Is the keyboard and mouse frozen? Is it just the backup program that freezes?
Can you copy files to and from the USB drive?
Look in the windows event viewer for system and application errors.
Try running the system file checker
SFC and DISM are both tools that scan and repair corrupted system files. However, SFC uses a cached version of the files, while DISM uses the internet to download and fix the files.
Try the SFC first and if that gives a message that it cannot fix the problem then try the DISM tool.

Thanks for the quick reaction. I do not get a blue screen when the computer freezes. The keyboard and the mouse which are also wirelessly connected rather freeze.
Also I can copy files to and from the External drive but sometimes the windows file explorer freezes entirely.
How do I update the drivers because when i run the HP update tool or windows update tool it comes up with no updates for the various hardware.?
Also when you say SFC or DISM should i run it on the external disk or in windows itself,?

Run DISM on the windows OS drive. I am guessing the Windows file system may have been damaged when the backup failed. This will not fix the problem with the USB drive.
Connect the external drive directly into a USB3 or USBC port.

Try a port in the back or or a port in the front. If your mouse and keyboard freeze then they are on the same USB controller as the external drive. I suspect your Bluetooth/Wi-Fi run off the USB buss.
Some applications install their own USB driver that takes the place of the Microsoft "winusb". Did the external backup drive come with a USB driver or a special backup program? if so, I would not trust it. If you recently installed a driver for the external backup then use the Windows restore to restore the system.
What external backup are you using: Manufacturer name model ?
If explorer windows freezes with just copying files then there is a problem somewhere. Does it freeze copying the same files to a standard USB flash?
