Hello, I am having trouble logging into my desktop. I am getting error messages PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable and PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM. Error: No boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed. I am attaching pictures of what I have in the settings and did diagnostic tests, they were all passing.

Hi @hlam1977,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The error messages you're encountering, "PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable" and "PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM," indicate that your computer is trying to boot from a network device using the Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) but cannot find the necessary files to proceed. This usually happens when the system cannot find a bootable device, such as your hard drive or SSD, which may be due to a few possible issues:
Boot Order Configuration:
- Your BIOS/UEFI might be configured to prioritize network boot (PXE) over other boot devices. Check your BIOS/UEFI settings to ensure that your hard drive or SSD is set as the primary boot device.
Hard Drive Connection Issues:
- There may be a physical issue with your hard drive's connection. Ensure that all cables connecting the hard drive to the motherboard are secure. If you're comfortable opening your desktop, you can check the SATA or power cables to the drive.
Hard Drive Failure:
- If the BIOS/UEFI cannot detect your hard drive, it could be a sign of drive failure. Even if the diagnostics passed, there could still be an intermittent issue. If possible, try connecting the hard drive to another computer or using a different SATA port or cable to verify its functionality.
BIOS/UEFI Settings Reset:
- Sometimes, resetting the BIOS/UEFI to its default settings can resolve boot issues. You can usually find this option in the BIOS/UEFI menu.
BIOS/UEFI Update:
- In some cases, updating the BIOS/UEFI firmware can resolve compatibility or recognition issues with the hard drive.
To address these issues:
Check the Boot Order:
- Enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing a key like F2, F10, DEL, or ESC during startup) and check the boot order. Make sure the hard drive is set as the primary boot device.
Inspect Connections:
- If comfortable, open your desktop case and check the connections to the hard drive.
Run Further Diagnostics:
- If possible, use another computer or a USB-based diagnostic tool to test the hard drive.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
