Hi @Adam18288228 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the BIOS update might have caused an issue with your PC's startup process. Here’s a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot the black screen and power issues:
Perform a Hard Reset:
- Turn off your PC completely.
- Unplug the power cord from the PC and hold down the power button for about 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Reconnect the power cord and try turning on the PC again.
Check for External Devices:
- Disconnect all external devices (keyboard, mouse, printer, etc.) except for the monitor.
- Try powering on the PC with only the monitor connected to see if it makes a difference.
Monitor Connection:
- Ensure that the monitor is properly connected to the PC and turned on.
- Verify that the monitor input source is set to the correct port (HDMI, DisplayPort, etc.).
BIOS Recovery:
- Some motherboards have a BIOS recovery feature. Check your PC’s manual or HP’s website for instructions on how to use BIOS recovery. This usually involves holding down a specific key (like F2, F10, or F12) while turning on the PC.
Clear CMOS:
- Turn off the PC and unplug it.
- Open the case and locate the CMOS battery (a small, round, silver battery on the motherboard).
- Remove the CMOS battery for about 5-10 minutes, then reinsert it.
- Plug the PC back in and try turning it on.
Check Power Supply:
- If the PC still doesn’t power off or on properly, there could be an issue with the power supply. Ensure all power cables are securely connected.
