HP Envy x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-fh0000 (77W45AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello. My laptop will randomly shut down and the screen will go black. My Face-ID feature has not been working either. No matter how close or far I move, it does not register my face. When it turns back on, I saw a right light flashing on the left side of the camera. I do not know if it is a software or battery issue. If anyone has some advice on how to resolve this, I would greatly appreciate it.

@UncleDuncle, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

You're experiencing issues with your HP Envy x360, where it shuts down randomly, and the Face ID feature is not functioning. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly resolve these issues:

Random Shutdowns

Check Battery Health:

  • Verify that your battery and charging setup are working properly. You might want to run a battery health check through the HP Support Assistant.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Ensure your BIOS and all system drivers are up-to-date. These updates can address power management issues that might be causing random shutdowns.

Power Settings Review:

  • Review your power settings to ensure they are appropriate for your needs. Settings that are too aggressive in saving power might cause the system to shut down unexpectedly.

Check for Overheating:

  • Overheating can cause shutdowns. Ensure your laptop's vents are clear of dust and debris and that the fan is working properly.

Run a Hardware Diagnostic:

  • Use HP Support Assistant or the built-in Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool to check hardware integrity. This can help identify any faults causing your system to shut down.

Face ID Issues

Camera Hardware Check:

  • Inspect the camera and ensure there are no obstructions over it. The flashing light indicates that the camera might be trying to work but is encountering an issue.

Update Camera Driver:

  • Ensure your camera driver is up-to-date. This can often resolve recognition issues. Use Device Manager to update or reinstall the camera driver.

Windows Update:

  • Make sure Windows is fully updated as updates may include improvements to the facial recognition feature.

Face ID Reconfiguration:

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options and try reconfiguring the facial recognition setup. This might resolve any configuration issues.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
