I can’t get into my security and privacy setting. Every time I try to get in all it says is my IT administrator has restricted me from access. I have reset my computer and it still does the same thing. I think that I must have gotten into permissions and set the wrong thing and now I can’t find it to redo it.

I'm racking my brain trying to figure out how you modified your user account (guessing an Admin account) such that you cannot access Security settings.

 

You did a reset, which will retain user settings and certain Apps.

 

I can only conclude your PC may have malware unless you have been mucking around in the Registry. Or you have W11 Pro and modified Group Policy settings.

 

I have no idea what has been changed. I cannot give you a quick fix.

 

See if you can download, install, and run Bitdefender free available Here. Run a full system scan. Then try Norton Power eraser (free) at this Site.

 

You may have to do a HP Cloud Recovery or a clean W11 install if the PC has malware and you can't clean the system using Bitdefender or Norton.

 

I don't know if I would backup data at this time if you can't clean a possibly infected system. Hopefully you may have backed up data prior to this problem.

Thanks for your timely response Bill! So malware isn’t the issue. Unfortunately, it’s ME that’s the issue. I am definitely NOT the sharpest tack in the box where tech is concerned and I have a terrible habit of THINKING I know more than I do where programs are involved. So right now on my permissions it stacks up like this: owner:trusted installer/ full permissions. 
my pc administrators/ read-execute only

all apps whether restricted or not have permission with read and execute permissions. Myself on there have read and execute permissions only. Yes, I’ve made quite the mess. Computer has TAKEN ownership with my dumba$$ help of course and I was TRYING to clean up the mess but only making it worse. I’m just about to the point of admitting defeat, tossin it into the dumpster and getting another.  Maybe strictly adhering to the old adage of “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” next time.

Don't be too hard on yourself.

 

I have done stuff like this in the past. I don't mess around with file or folder permissions. I now do some modifications on Win Pro using the Group Policy Editor. You have to be careful when modifying user account permissions

 

Maybe you have a system restore point prior to doing the security settings?

 

Create a new Admin user account, if possible? Getting this done depends upon the scope of the security changes you have made to your user account.

You could also try the following:

 

Download the W11 .ISO at this Site. Double-click the .ISO to mount the image.

 

Try to run the Setup.exe file while running Windows.

 

This should do an in place upgrade. It might reset any file and folder permissions you have made. An in place upgrade will fix certain system files but it may not reset file and folder permissions.

 

Microsoft is only offering W11 24H2 now.

 

But you can get the W11 Home OEM version you are using at Heidoc if you are interested. Heidoc provides Microsoft certified software downloads.
