I have an older HP h8-1280t. Been a great workhorse for me. Rarely a problem until now. Here' it is.
I purchased a Seagate 5TB portable hdd. When I plug it into a USB slot, nothing happens - it won't open. However, I have an HP split laptop and if I plug it into the USB slot on it, the hdd opens.
I've queried Seagate on it and they said it more than likely has to do with the USB or BIOS.
If I plug it in and go to diskmgmg.msc, it is there as Disk 5.
If I open AOMEI it is Disk 6 on that
Does anybody have any ideas on why the hdd won't

hi
"If I plug it in and go to diskmgmg.msc, it is there as Disk 5"
so it is recognized?
you should be able to right click on it here, and click explore , result?
give captures, of what you see in the device manager, where it is
and disk management
maybe it's just the autorun that isn't working?
If you don't have it in the explorer, maybe no letter assigned?

Thank you Promthee for your response.
You gave me the clue I needed to get my device to work.
I went to disk management and it was listed. After right clicking on it, I explored options and found instructions on how to assign a drive letter to it.
I assigned drive D to it and there it is.
Thank you very much for your help.
Have a great weekend.
