OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-198np
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Good day.

I bought this desktop in 2019.

However the system I'm using on my desktop is Windows 10 Home 22H2 (OS Build 19045.2546).

However, there is a vulnerability information CVE-2022-38396, which indicates that:

"HP Factory Preinstalled Images on certain systems that shipped with Windows 10 versions 20H2 and earlier OS versions might allow escalation of privilege via execution of certain files outside the restricted path. This potential vulnerability was remediated starting with Windows 10 versions 21H2 on October 31, 2021 ."

Link:https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_7620368-7620413-16/hpsbhf03830

Now my computer runs a version that already corrected this vulnerability.

But it came with a factory image earlier than the version that has this vulnerability (2019).

I'm a little confused as I have a newer version running on my desktop, but should I install this patch (firmware) because the factory image is older?

it doesn't tell me if you found this document from the product page, or otherwise..
but, indeed, if the computer has been updated, as mentioned, there should be no need to install this patch
I tried to find more information, that's why I asked you how did you find this document..
because it is well mentioned "certain systems"
it can also mean that it will not apply to this model of computer either
If I were certain that it's safe, I'd tell you, it won't hurt to install it, either it installs or it may indicate that it's not compatible/necessary!
but as I have no idea, what it will have to update, there could be a risk of losing data for example, of blocking the computer
Frankly as I say, never had a problem with my computer

in a daredevil mood, I tried with windows 11, although it is indicated that no need
it gives this

voila, we won't be any more
a CMD window, opened and closed as quickly
Effect, or none, I cannot say at this time!

hi

"This potential vulnerability was remediated starting with Windows 10 versions 21H2 on October 31, 2021. "

Affected products

Systems with Windows 11 are not impacted. Versions of Windows 10 21H2 and later are not impacted. Systems shipping with Windows 10 20H2 and earlier are affected and should implement the resolution above.

if the computer has since been updated, it would seem no longer necessary

but I don't see anything here, which indicates what is updated exactly

hi have this one

don't remember installing this
I installed all windows 10 updates, and now windows 11
never had a problem

Yes, I saw, but not seen in the lists here

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-880-100-desktop-pc-series/18695893/product-info

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-880-000-desktop-pc-series/15776604/product-info

and that does not change anything since certainly the same type of computer, as mine

Besides the document, you have it from the product page, I did not identify it here?

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/omen-by-hp-880-100-desktop-pc-series/18695893/bulletins-notices

the list is a bit long, I may have skipped it?

Hello @Prométhée.

Well, if I have my system on the latest version of Windows 10 Home, with last month's latest cumulative updates, it seems that I don't need to install that firmware even though I have the factory image disk preinstalled with the version of W10 prior to 2019?
