After cleaning CPU fan with wet paper towel, and washing front grill.

HP Prodesk 600 g1 didn't start immediately, but then started with a warning of a problem with the Real Time Clock or System Configuration, and showed an option in green font, to press F1 to boot.

The system didn't boot then, or since, but a small green LED in the RAM slots corner lights, with AC power, and the CPU fan runs after pressing the front power button, which is illuminated by green LED.

I installed a new CR2032 battery, tried pressing the power button for minutes with no battery, and pressing the yellow button on the CMOS 'square', and tried holding power button on with power on.

VGA Pins 10 + 9 show ~5 volts, but VGA or DisplayPort(through HDMI adapter) show 'no signal'.

Removing the 1 RAM module produces the 5 beep warning, with red LED behind the front power button.

I also removed the heatsink+fan, and the CPU, reseated, with no improvement.

A more recent Prodesk 600 g2 is due tomorrow, and I'm using an older Dell Optiplex, wth Debian Linux Trixie.

I'd just like to know why the Prodesk 1 runs, but won't display.

Thanks for you advice.

My pleasure.

Yes, a 3:2 error code would be memory. This suggest the MB is alive.

The real time clock/system config. error could indicate a CMOS problem. You did a new MB battery/CMOS reset having no luck.

I don't know, I would say the water has damaged the MB or a component connected to the MB.

You would have to troubleshoot all components to find the bad part.

This would be reducing the PC to a minimum config to check for a POST, Then swap in replacement components, one at a time, until the PC can POST.

An electronics Tech would be needed if the MB is in trouble and you want a repair. I replace the system board after concluding it has failed.

Greetings @leeanthony

Welcome to the HP Forum.

The wet paper towel, I'm guessing water is involved, would not be good for electronic components, energized or not.

Water takes a long time to evaporate completely.

I use 99% Isopropyl alcohol when cleaning PC components.  I also allow a very long dry time after cleaning before using the device.

Bill_To, thanks, and I should have first used the air compressor to blow out some of the dust(which I did, later).

Yesterday, I received a Prodesk g2, then installed Debian testing(Trixie), and will try to  extract the Prodesk g1's files from the Debian Buster partition of the g1's mechanical harddrive, with an older Dell Optiplex 760.

I was really just trying to understand why the Prodesk g1 lights up, runs nicely, but will beep(5 times) only with the one RAM module removed!

If it can beep for 'no RAM', shouldn't it be able to beep for something else wrong/missing?
