I went to go open Call of duty on my registered to site pc after not launching it in about a year.  Windows warned me that there was a bios update and that by continuing, it might cause instability and damage to the computer. Well, behold the only button that made sense to hit on the prompt to follow the prompts warning. Was the continue at the bottom right. Which I figured was going to close me out instead of running the app given the warning. Rather, it launched the app, compromising my pc. Now everything is loading super slow. Upon startup, it never took my xbox portal, five minutes to open. and now everything seems to be running way behind. Clicking between tabs in steam takes moments vs instant before. Games loading slow.. This is unacceptable as I was clicking continue to comply with the warning given. Not to go on and open the app after the warning and fry my processor. Having a continue button on that prompt is a huge flaw. Trying to figure out how to get in touch with any kind of contact support, or let alone get here is ridiculous. [edited]

Hi @TeamDetroit55,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m really sorry to hear about the experience you’ve had. I understand how alarming it feels to see a BIOS warning message and then notice your system running much slower afterwards, especially when you were trying to do the safe and responsible thing by following the prompt. I appreciate you explaining the situation clearly.

I’d like to reassure you of one important point first: launching a game application cannot damage your processor or “fry” your PC. A BIOS update and a game launch are separate processes. What likely happened is that a firmware or system update notice appeared (often from HP Support Assistant or Windows Update), and the app continued to open after the prompt, but that action itself would not physically harm the hardware. That said, the slowdown you’re seeing is absolutely not expected behavior, and we should address it properly.

What May Have Happened

One of the following likely occurred:

  • A BIOS or firmware update was completed earlier, and the performance settings
  • A Windows update was installed in the background
  • Power/performance mode changed after the update
  • Drivers (chipset/graphics) were replaced by Windows Update
  • Background optimization or indexing is currently running

Immediate Recommended Checks

Please try these steps:

Check Power Mode

  1. Go to Settings → System → Power & Battery
  2. Set Power Mode to Best Performance

Check OMEN Gaming Hub / HP Command Center (if installed)

  • Open the app
  • Make sure Performance mode is enabled
  • Check that no “Eco” or “Balanced” mode is active

Update Core Drivers from HP

Install from your HP model support page: Official HP® Support

  • Chipset driver
  • Graphics driver
  • BIOS (only if a newer stable version exists)
  • HP Support Assistant updates

Check Task Manager

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc

  • Look at CPU and Disk usage at idle
  • Let me know if anything is constantly running high

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
