HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF
Linux

I have an HP Compaq Elite 8300 SFF with an old BIOS version: K01 v02.05. I have Debian 10 (Buster) Linux running on that computer. I'd like to update the BIOS. I downloaded v02.99 Rev.A and 00.03.07 Rev.A executables.

I tried to create a recovery USB flash drive by running the 02.99 executable on a Windows box, as explained here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00007682. However, I have no option to create that recovery USB drive. I can only extract the executable's files into the USB drive.

How can I get that recovery USB drive so that I can update my firmware?

Hi:

Get a USB flash drive.

Format it with the FAT 32 file system.

First do the update for v2.99

Since you can extract the folders from the exe file, then what you do is to first copy the file contents of the v02.99 DOS flash folder to your USB flash drive.

Restart the PC.  Tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F10 setup option, and press the Enter key.

Select the File tab>Flash System ROM command.

Select the USB flash drive.  The PC will 'see' the files on the flash drive.

Follow the on screen instructions to update the BIOS.

Then delete the files from the flash drive and do the same thing with v03.08.

03.08 is the latest revision, not 03.07.
