Hi, Hoping someone can help. I have been having random crashes on my HP Windows 11 since August. I have brought it into the geek squad and Best buy , they couldn't find anything. Suggested it could be my usb ports. Tested those all good. I have HP assistant so I've been checking updates and running test. It needed to download firmware HPS4 which I thought that might help. but again another crash today. Any help would be appreciated . Thanks ! Diane

Greetings @Diane1016
At this time I really don't know if your PC has a Windows problem or a hardware problem.
Please provide a detailed description of your PC's behavior when it crashes. Knowing this might assist in figuring out what could be causing the problem.
Your PC either has: a hardware problem, a driver problem, or Windows system file corruption.
A failing power supply, which might not be detected when running HP diagnostics, could be causing erratic PC behavior.
Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:
Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.
Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.
W11 in-place recovery:
Back up data before trying the next thing if HP hardware tests pass.
Try a "non-destructive" W11 in-place recovery. Go to Settings>System>Recovery.
Do "Fix problems using Windows Update" to see if this helps.
Let the Forum know how it goes.
We can try some other stuff after you describe what: your PC and Windows do when thing go south.

Thanks for the quick reply! When my computer crashes it just goes to black screen and says your device ran into a problem 0x139. I have checked my event viewer and it seems to have started after a bad storm here on July 3rd. After that date when I check the event viewer is says Secure boot update failed to update SBAT. So I googled that and it said to up date software, drivers and firmware ( which I have done). I have also checked my secure boot and it has a green check mark next to it and says all is updated. Last night I brought my pc to a different room which I used to have my computer plugged in. As of last night no problems. I'm at lost what to do next, I'm not computer savvy but I'm sure learning alot as a try to see what's wrong with it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Greetings @Diane1016
My pleasure.
The black screen 0x139 error indicates critical data corruption usually due to hardware problems or driver problems.
The SBAT error should not normally cause black screen 0x139 errors.
Loss of AC power during a storm causing an abrupt PC/Windows shutdown could result in possible hardware problems or Windows is now corrupted.
Run the PC in the second room for a while to see if it is stable.
Run HP hardware diagnostics to check your PC's hardware if the PC is still unstable when used on a different AC power outlet in the second room.? And then try a W11 in-place recovery.
Maybe the AC outlet or the surge protector being used in the first room has a problem which might have been caused by the storm.
And it is still possible the PC's power supply might be in trouble.
You may eventually have to do a clean W11 installation to narrow your troubleshooting focus to hardware.

thanks again for the quick reply. I just did a diagnostic tests via my hp assistant, I ran all test including boot , system, processor, memory, fan, system board and hard drive. All tests passed. So far in the new room that I have my pc plugged into no problems but I'm optimistically cautious because I've been there before. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Greetings @Diane1016
Good to see HP hardware diagnostic test passed.
Remember, HP diagnostics may not detect power supply problems. Again, maybe something has happened to the AC power outlet in the other room.
Are you using a surge protector? I do Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) on my PCs and TVs.
You should wait and see how things go. Continue using the PC in a different room.
Intermittent PC problems are tough to diagnose.

Thank you for your quick reply! I was using a battery back up surge protector when the storm came along. My first thought was maybe something happen to that and that is why my computer was randomly crashing. Since then I've tried that battery back up and it happened when it was plugged in. So I bought a surge protector and looking to buy another battery back up surge protector. Is there something I can do to test the power supply? Thanks so much for your suggestions.

Greetings @Diane1016
Yes, it's a good idea to try a new back up surge protector if the PC is unstable using a different, newly purchased, surge protector.
There are power supply testers available. But most don't put a load on the power supply.
So the PSU tester's usefulness is questionable.
The best way to test a power supply is to use it in a different, known good, PC. Or try a known good power supply with your PC to check stability.
Download and run OCCT (free). Run a 10 minute CPU and RAM stability test to check your PC.
This software will tell you if your PC has any stability problems.
