Since it is a notebook, I presume that you have its battery connected, and that the battery is holding a charge. The battery supplies "smooth" power to the notebook.

 

Random restarts could be:

1. overheating of the processor or the motherboard

2. bad RAM

3. a disk-drive that is starting to fail -- unlikely, but possible after 1 year of usage

3. on a desktop -- a "power-spike" that overwhelms the motherboard, to make it restart
