I have a HP Pavilion P2-1110 at our vacation property that I have set up for environmental monitoring.  Because it is remote, they have frequent power outages and we are not there all the time, I want it to reboot when power resumes after an outage.  I have tried setting the advanced power option in BIOS to both the "on" and "previous state" settings but it won't reboot.  It just hangs on the "press esc to enter startup" screen.  Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,

I checked the BIOS settings for your PC and couldn't find "previous state".  Are you sure that you have posted the correct PC model?  If power on after a power loss is set in the BIOS then you might have a BIOS bug or BIOS corruption.  Replace the CMOS battery as a weak battery may not be holding changes to the default settings.

If you are experiencing frequent power outages then the best solution to protect the hardware and the data is to install an UPS (uninterruptible power supply).    APS for example has software that will gracefully shut down your PC in the event of a power loss.

Yes, I re-checked the model (QW688AA#ABA) and verified the three options "on", "off" and "previous state" in the advanced power options.  The BIOS is:  BLU_712.rom V7.12.  I do have a UPS and it gives me about 45 minutes which protects me from the multiple fluctuations that often accompany an outage.  I need the reboot for the outages that outlast my UPS (a couple each year).  I'll reset the CMOS and see if that helps.  The battery is nearly brand new, HP just replaced the mother board a couple of months ago due to failed NIC (not a separate card on this box).  BTW, I am edanchor but the site made me change my moniker.

Hi,

There might be a number of issues with power management software and BIOS settings that are not correct.  You need to review all of those settings to make sure that your PC is in a normal operating state when a power interruption occurs.  You should be able to test these conditions.

I reset CMOS, reset the date/time and then configured the advanced power options again for "previous state".  It still locks up on the screen that prompts you to hit esc to enter setup when it powers back up.  I have been simulating a power outage by simply pulling the plug from the UPS and I have been leaving it down for at least 30 seconds before plugging it back in.

Login using admin/manager profile select the cmd prompt option.

In the command prompt type: bcdedit /set {default} recoveryenabled No

It will prompt you it was successful then type exit and hit enter. Restart the pc again and let it go to the windows login screen.

After it has made it to the login screen unplug the computer for 30 seconds and plug it back in.

Verify that the PC boots back up and goes to a screen saying boot windows normally with a 30 second countdown that will select that option for you.
