Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

You can get a HP Recovery Kit here (Link).

Backing up the Recovery drive and wiping the drive may have caused this problem.

Avoid doing this in the future.

The computer is working.  I just need to put all of my files back on the computer.  will i be able to load them back on with the recovery kit

Hi Tim127,

The recovery kit will partition and reformat the HDD. You will lose all data on the current operating system installation if you use the HP recovery kit.

I have no idea where your data is.

Maybe someone else can help.

Regards

Hello,  my data was backed up on 4 discs using the HP recovery manager program.  Now I am trying to load back onto computer and the program stops running and I get an error message after about 30 minutes.   Is there a solution to this issue.  Please help

Hi

To supplement Grzwacz 's answer, I hope this helps, but loss of data is sometimes inevitable.

First:- Turn off the computer, press and hold the PWR button for 4 seconds.

Then - Leave only keyboard and mouse connected, disconnect all externally connected
devices such as Docking Station, USB storage devices, displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Next - Press and Hold the Power button for 15 seconds to Hard Reset.
Rinse and Repeat; Re-Connect the AC adapter.

NOW begin checking/testing/proving the Hardware is fit for purpose.
Power on your PC, press ESC (repeatedly), then F2 at the prompt.
Choose System Tests (Fast Test does a 4 minute hardware check).

If the Hardware passes test then we would try a software solution, but that may involve another PC.

Do you have access to another PC?

Hi

So an over the top install, where the new OS leaves the OLD in place as Windows.OLD may be possible.

Step 1:

I would suggest you to download an ISO image of Windows 10 and try to install again using the Media Creation tool.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

Installation Media tool:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

Once the bootable media is created, follow next step:

Step 2: Perform Start up Repair.

Follow the steps mentioned below to perform Start up Repair:
       a. Insert the installation DVD or USB and boot Windows 10 from it.
       b. Select “Troubleshooting” from the first Window and then select “Advance Options”.
       c. Then select “Automatic Repair” from “Advanced options” window.

LinuxMintGparted.jpg

LinuxMint runs (without installing) in Memory (RAM space) and has Gparted included.

Gparted has these capabilities/properties...

With GParted you can resize, copy, and move partitions without data loss, enabling you to:

  • Grow or shrink your C: drive
  • Create space for new operating systems
  • Attempt data rescue from lost partitions

Easy to say, not so easy to do.

OR

Remove the problem HDD and mount it in the working one as a slave, attempt recovery using a Windows based tool like

https://www.lifehack.org/330301/best-5-free-partition-management-software-for-windows-10

item 2 in the list.

You can move data between HDD's etc as needed.

If in doubt please ask.
