All.
Having backed up my files to an external hard drive before initiating a re-installation of Windows 10, I can't seem to find out how I recover said files. Anyone have any ideas?

If you used Microsoft's Windows 10 Backup and Restore, read here.
If you used a copy/paste scheme:
The only files that you can transfer to the computer would be contents of data folders,, ie Documents, Pictures, Music, Videos., Favorites, etc. But not programs. Hook up the external drive you have booted the computer.
I use the free Servant Salamander v152
