Recovery Media

Hi. I have a Envy 20 AIO model D013W. A friend give it to me because it had a virus. I have gotten rid of all the virus and malware but I can't reset it to factory settings due to missing drive partition. I can't use system recovery because I have no recovery media. Can I possibly get the recovery media I need for this PC and where can I get it? Thanks.

Hi:

HP no longer sells recovery media for that model since it is more than 5 years old.

You can purchase recovery media from this vendor at the link below, who buys up the HP stock when HP decides to no longer sell it directly.

There is a way you can install W8.1 for free by using the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

Install W8.1 by creating the Microsoft installation media, using another Windows PC, if yours is not working...You want W8.1 64 bit.

If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, use this generic key.

This is the generic key for W8.1 'Standard.'

When you get to the screen that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space. Click Next, and W8.1 should begin to install.

If you had to enter the generic key, manually change the generic product key to the W8 key in your PC's BIOS in the PC settings menu.

After you get W8.1 installed, and you had to manually enter the W8.1 generic product key, you will need to run the free utility I zipped up and attached below, that will show you show the W8 product key in your PC's BIOS.

I have also zipped up and attached below, the Microsoft tool which hopefully will transfer the ISO file to a DVD or USB flash drive so it is bootable.

Then you can install the available drivers and software from your PC's support page.

If you choose to create a bootable DVD, you will need to go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot in order to boot from a DVD.

Thank you very much for this information. I followed your instructions up until deleting the partitions. Should I delete all partitions (I have 7)? I did delete the OS partition and now it says Windows can't be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style.

Yes, delete all of them because they are of no use to you now.

Watch this video to get around the 'Windows can't be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partition style' problem. It is a pretty simple process.

The video is for W7, but it works on W8/8.1 and W10 the same way.
