Original hard drive going bad.  I bought the same one but newer from western digital 1TB to western digital 2TB.  But, the stupid recovery disk I created in a USB drive last year won't work.  It displays there is a kernerl error.  HP won't let me create a new recovery disk.  Is there a way around this problem?

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

You may have to install Windows 10 clean using Windows 10 Installation Media at this site (Link).

One problem you may have is it appears HP does not provide Windows 10, version 1903 drivers for your PC.

So, Windows 10, version 1903 may not install correctly.

Windows 10 is very good but installing newer versions of Windows 10 on older hardware gets harder with each new version of Windows 10.

You may have to go to Heidoc (Link) for a compatible version of Windows 10. It looks like W10, version 1803 (April, 2018) should work.

I use Rufus portable (Link) to convert the Heidoc .ISO file to bootable media.

Regards
