HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-1026
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Symptoms:

  • I noticed recently that I was unable to select any options under the Power option to Shutdown or Sleep my computer - those options simply would not highlight.
  • Often Windows Explorer would crash after opening a Microsoft Edge window.  The system generally appears to be unstable.

Steps taken:

  • I have run sfc /scannow from a cmd prompt in Administrator mode, but here were no errors.
  • I have also run CHKDSK, also with no errors found.
  • I created a local Admin account and logged in, and everything seems to work fine.

Running hypothesis:  My user profile is corrupted.

If there a straightforward way to repair a user profile in Windows 10 Pro?  Anything else that would cause me to be unable to use the Windows 10 Shutdown or Sleep commands that used to work just fine?

hi

if a profile is damaged, so you seem to have already done so, no better option than to create a new one
once done, recover the data available from the old account

I don't know if still relevant, haven't come across this in years, but if the sleep option in the menu, it was related to the graphics driver

Thank you!  Just creating a new account, which created a new profile, helped.  Thanks for sharing that is the best path.
