@1kartmom, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having a tough time with your HP desktop. Let's try to get it sorted out. Here are some steps you can follow to repair your Windows installation and recover the missing MSO files:
Using a USB Recovery Drive
Create or Obtain a Recovery Drive:
- If you don't already have a recovery USB, you can create one using another Windows computer. Follow the instructions here to create a recovery drive.
Prepare for Recovery:
- Power off your computer and disconnect all peripheral devices except the keyboard, mouse, power cord, and monitor.
- Insert the USB recovery drive into any USB port on your HP desktop.
Boot from the USB Drive:
- Power on your computer and immediately press the Escape key repeatedly until the Startup Menu opens.
- Press F9 to open the Boot Options menu, select the USB flash drive, and press Enter.
Run the Recovery Manager:
- Follow the on-screen instructions to run the Recovery Manager.
- Choose the option to recover your system without backing up your files if you don't need to keep any data, or back up your files if necessary.
Complete the Recovery:
- The system will restore your computer to its original factory state. This process will reinstall Windows and should restore the missing MSO files.
Recovering MSO Files
If you specifically need to recover MSO files (related to Microsoft Office), here are some additional steps:
Run System File Checker (SFC) and DISM:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Run the following commands:
sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- These commands will scan and repair corrupted system files, which might include the missing MSO files.
Reinstall Microsoft Office:
- If the above steps don't work, you might need to reinstall Microsoft Office. Uninstall it from the Control Panel and then reinstall it from the official Microsoft website
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
