all-in-one 24-g214
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi all, recently inherited this computer from my brother who has lost all product disks and I am going to install win 10 home 64 bit purchased from BestBuy. I remember from installing windows on other HP laptops that I needed to  run a disk so the install disk could see the hard drive. Can anyone explain the install procedure on this computer. Many thanks for any assistance.

I was originally thinking I could just reset the installed windows 10 but not sure if this is available to do.

Hi:

it appears that model is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with the PC.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support

If you can't get into the PC, you can use any Windows PC running W7 64 bit or newer to create the bootable USB recovery media.

Thank you for the information and yes, using the product ID does show it's available.

I started the procedure and one of the first steps it shows the correct serial number

and asks me to select from a list the "Model Name".

Going to Settings > About shows "24 g214"  Device Name DESKTOP-LFE055I.

The manufactures label shows HP All-in-one 24-g214.

On the drop down list to choose from the nearly 50 model names doesn't come

anywhere close to the description of this computer.

Now the best part is that I was going to try to copy the list from the drop down

now trying to open this recovery program (sp110846) will not take me to that point.

Opening the cloud recovery client s110846, shows no option to select RUN, it just

installs and closes.

Many thanks for any help.....

Please disregard that last part, the client had left a start up icon on my cluttered desktop and didn't see it.

So once I know which Model name to enter I should be all set.

Thanks...

You're very welcome.

You need to enter this product number in the tool's search window...Z5L78AA#ABA

After you install the tool, it should be in the start menu, and then you have to run the tool as an administrator.

Have entered the PN# and have downloaded the HP Cloud Recovery Download Tool

and received this link:

HP Business PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Download Tool | HP® Customer Support

//support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05115630

The third window down called "system information page" has the serial number correctly

and the next box asks for a Model Name, the drop down has approx. 50 choices.

From the above link clicking on "HP Cloud Recovery Supported Platforms" is the list that I have

to choose from asking for my Model Name.

//ftp.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/CloudRecovery/crsupportedplatform.html

There are a few that mention "all-in-one" but not sure which one to select.

I really appreciate your help with this, I know if I do one thing wrong I can jeopardize the whole

procedure.

Hi, Dave:

You are using the wrong version of the tool.  You need the one for the HP consumer class PC's which was on the info link I posted yesterday...

Perfect thank you, downloaded perfectly.

Selected the usb drive to boot from and the recovery was going perfectly,

until receiving an error message after about 5 mins

CTOError.flg-Notepad

Component: Win10 PIN Diag Tools ReD - CPS

Timing: Factory Update

Error: Incorrect Brand Name (unknown)

Expected Brand Name from FB (HPC)

Next Step: Please Check Model Name of Feature Byte.

I downloaded the log file to a usb drive, please let me know if it is required.

Thank you....

Sorry the recovery failed.

When it doesn't work, unfortunately I would not be able to help you with getting it to work.

The only other option that I know of when the recovery drive fails to reinstall Windows, would be to clean install W10 by making a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive with the Media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.
