Hi @Jhumble45,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out. I can imagine how confusing and frustrating that must've felt, especially when you're just trying to get your computer back on track. You're absolutely right to double-check before moving forward.

Could you please share the model name of your HP product? (For example: HP Pavilion 15-eg2005). Also, if you have a Case ID from when you spoke with phone support, that would be super helpful in verifying the details.

You're not alone in this, I’m here to guide you every step of the way 🫶

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!

Best regards,

Hi @Jhumble45,

Thank you for the details.

I understand your concern. If the device is out of warranty, HP does have a standard policy where a fee is charged for certain types of support, in this case, $51 for reset assistance. It's legitimate and part of their service model for out-of-warranty devices. That said, you're still in the right place, I’ll do my best to help you out from here, without any extra charges.

You can reset your HP all-in-one desktop PC to its factory settings by following these steps:

Using Windows Settings

  1. Open Settings: Click the Start menu and select the Settings icon.
  2. Navigate to Update & Security: Select Update & Security.
  3. Choose Recovery: Select Recovery from the sidebar.
  4. Reset this PC:
    • Under Reset this PC, click Get started.
    • Select Remove everything.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the reset process.

Using HP Recovery Manager

  1. Open HP Recovery Manager: Restart your computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly.
  2. Select ‘Troubleshoot’:
    • Choose Troubleshoot.
    • Click Reset this PC.
    • Select Remove everything.
  3. Follow On-Screen Instructions: Complete the reset process by following the prompts.
  • Ensure that your files are backed up, as resetting will remove all personal files, settings, and applications.

I hope this helps.
