Hi @rbsmithjr,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The "Boot Device Not Found" error message typically indicates that your computer is having trouble locating the operating system or the storage device containing the operating system during the boot process. There are several potential reasons for this issue, and here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

  • Check Connections: Make sure that all cables and connections between the storage drive (usually a hard drive or SSD) and the motherboard are secure. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause this error.
  • Check Boot Order in BIOS: Access your computer's BIOS settings by pressing a specific key (often F2, F12, Del) during the boot process. Once in the BIOS, navigate to the "Boot" or "Boot Order" section and ensure that the correct boot drive is selected as the first boot option. If the correct drive is not listed, it may indicate an issue with the drive itself or its connection.
  • Failed Hard Drive or SSD: It's possible that the storage drive has failed or is failing. If the drive is no longer functioning properly, your computer won't be able to locate the operating system. You can try connecting the drive to another computer to see if it's recognized, or use diagnostic tools to check the drive's health.
  • Corrupted Operating System: If the operating system files have become corrupted, your computer may not be able to boot. You might need to repair or reinstall the operating system. You can try booting from a recovery disk or a USB drive with a bootable operating system installer to perform a repair or reinstallation.
  • UEFI/BIOS Update: Sometimes, updating your computer's UEFI/BIOS can resolve compatibility issues that might be causing the boot problem. However, this process should be approached with caution, as an incorrect update can potentially cause more problems.
  • Faulty SATA Cable or Connection: If your storage drive uses a SATA connection, the SATA cable connecting the drive to the motherboard could be faulty. Try replacing the cable to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Data Corruption: In some cases, data corruption on the drive's boot sector can cause boot issues. You might need to use recovery tools or boot repair utilities to fix this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
