Hi @kathreil,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're having trouble accessing a photo memory card on your Windows 11 desktop computer, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Check the Card Reader: Ensure that the memory card is properly inserted into the card reader slot on your computer. Sometimes, cards can be inserted incorrectly or not all the way in, preventing them from being detected.

Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve issues related to hardware recognition. Restart your computer and try again.

Use a Different USB Port or Card Reader: If you're using an external card reader, try plugging it into a different USB port. If you have multiple USB ports, try each one to see if the card is recognized.

Check Device Manager:

  • Right-click on the Start button and select "Device Manager."
  • Expand the "Disk drives" and "Universal Serial Bus controllers" sections.
  • Look for any devices with a yellow triangle or an error icon. If you find any, right-click on them and choose "Update driver."

Use Another Memory Card: If you have another memory card, try inserting it into the card reader to see if it's a card-specific issue.

Check File Explorer:

  • Press Win + E to open File Explorer.
  • Look for the memory card under "This PC" or "Devices and drives." It may appear as a removable disk. Double-click on it to open.

Driver Updates: Make sure your card reader drivers are up-to-date. You can check for driver updates on the manufacturer's website or use Windows Update.

Scan for Hardware Changes:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your computer's name at the top of the list and select "Scan for hardware changes."

Check AutoPlay Settings:

  • Type "AutoPlay" in the Windows search bar and open the AutoPlay settings.
  • Ensure that "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" is turned on, and you have the appropriate action selected for memory cards (e.g., "Import photos and videos").

Check for Software Conflicts: Sometimes, third-party software can interfere with memory card recognition. Try closing any background applications that might be causing conflicts.

Virus Scan: Run a full virus scan on your computer to rule out the possibility of malware interfering with the memory card.

Try on Another Computer: If possible, try inserting the memory card into another computer to see if it's recognized. This can help determine if the issue is with the card or your computer.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there may be a hardware problem with the card reader or the memory card itself.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
