Omen 880 124
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I would like to know if I can plug an SSD (Sata 2.5') in the front of my Omen 880 124 nf (2 boxes to receive hard disks but... 3.5 inches) and if it is a better solution than an USB3 connexion beetween my computer and an external SSD.

Thank's in advance

Regards

Hello
I doubt to find the previous thread, but the question has already been asked
In theory this should have been possible.
But since you need a 2.5 adapter, there seems to be a problem.
Either the adapter did not fit or it would not be possible, in fact the connectors did not fit ..
but since there are different adapters, I can't tell if it was yes or not just the wrong one
otherwise, yes, it is quite practical, faster than the usb!
With a good sata HDD, this must be sufficient if it is to have a removable storage unit.
I prefer not to tell you that it is possible you risk wasting money and time looking in vain

@AlbertoRV

While you COULD see if you could get a 3.5 inch tray to hold a SATA SSD, in reality, you don't need this for an SSD because it has no moving parts and does not need to be fastened down.  I have the SSDs in my desktops just resting on the case and the work just fine.

As to the speed, the internal drive bus is much faster than any external USB 3.0 port -- so I would attach the drive to the internal SATA connector, not attach it through an external case.

So you think that it's possible to plug directly an SSD 2.5 in the front of my Omen (see pictures below) without adaptater 2,5 - 3,5 ?

Do you know if there is a particular model of SSD in order to do this ?

Best regardsIMG_20210623_194102.jpgIMG_20210624_075616.jpg

I think we responded too quickly here @WAWood
It is a special case, the goal being that you can remove the hard drive by pulling the case.
We could actually maybe place the SSD like this, but not a very good idea here, we risk breaking the connectors

we see how it works in the manual

a hard drive in the box it gives this

Thank's Prométhée

It seems mor easy to plug a new SSD in top or side disk bay into the computer...

It was just for not open it 😉
