After the "push" upgrade to Windows 10 Creators, the Scan to Computer function (accessed from printer touch display) on my HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 stopped working. Nor does the Manage Scan to Computer function on the HP Printer Assistant program that came with the OfficeJet Pro 8600 Windows popup said "printer not recognized", even though I could still print from the computer.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the printer and all the other dx procedures (unplug printer, router, and computer) to no avail. (The printer is set up for wireless network )
The only workaround for scanning is thru the HP Smart app, but it's kinda clunky.
Any suggestions for a fix would be welcome.

Install the "full" software package for your printer.
Then, try the "Windows Fax and Scan" application, included in Windows 7/8/10.
Select the printer, and launch a scan.
Tell us how it goes.

Downloaded & installed OJ8600_1315-1.exe for Windows 10 64-bit OS from HP Software and Drivers site. Selected Wireless printer connection, but after entering printer IP address, the network printer installation routine did not find my printer.

What is the first 3-quarters of the IP-address of your computer, e.g., '192.168.0.xxx' ?
What is the first 3-quarters of the IP-address of your printer, e.g., '192.168.0.zzz' ?
Those parts must match, for the computer to "find" the printer.
I presume that the Ethernet cable from your desktop computer "physically" connects to the same router that your printer "wirelessly" connects to. Correct?
Have you tried the "troubleshooter" programs within "Control Panel" ?

The IP address prefixes on printer and computer match. My computer is on the same network as the printer and is not connected to router by ethernet . And, the troubleshooter in the Control Panel does not resolve the problem.
This problem surfaced only after the upgrade to Windows 10 Creators and only affects the printer's native 'scan to computer' functionality. Speciifically, on the printer display, pressing Scan, then Computer displays message "No computer found" and issues prompt to open HP printer software and selecting Manage Scan to Computer. Opening HP Printer Assistanct | Print, Scan & Fax on the computer and clicking on Manage Scan to Computer results in the "Scan to Computer is currently unavailable" message.
However scanning is possible from the computer is possible but only via the HP Smart app, not the HP Printer Assistant.

Windows 7 and Windows 10 have a built-in application named "Windows Fax and Scan".
In Windows 10, in the input-area just to the right of the Windows "Start" button, type 'scan', and wait a second or two.
Windows Search will suggest that "Windows Fax and Scan" application.
Click that label, to launch it, and select your HP device as the active scanning device.

After latest Windows 10 upgrade "Scan to Computer" function from printer control panel stopped working. error "No computer found"
Yes the HP Scan and Capture app works fine and the printer is on the network (wireless only). So what did our friend Mr Gates break this time?
