Hi @KennyAkande

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for explaining that. Screen flickering after a BIOS update—especially if it started immediately afterward—is often tied to display driver conflicts or refresh rate mismatches.

Since you’re using Windows 10 Pro, here’s a structured approach that can help stabilize the display:

1. Check for Windows Updates

Ensure your system has the latest Windows updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update
  • Click Check for updates and install anything available

2. Update Display Drivers

Ensure you're using the most stable driver:

  • Use Windows Update to check for driver updates
  • Open HP Support Assistant from Start Menu or taskbar

3. Check for BIOS Updates

Outdated firmware may cause display issues:

  • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page
  • Enter your laptop’s model number and download the latest BIOS version
  • Follow on-screen instructions to install

4. Adjust Display Settings

Misconfigured display settings can lead to flickering:

  • Right-click on the desktop > Display settings
  • Scroll to Advanced display settings
  • Lower the refresh rate to 60Hz or other supported values
  • Set resolution to recommended value

5. Reinstall Display Driver via Device Manager

A clean reinstall can correct driver corruption:

  • Right-click Start > Device Manager
  • Expand Display adapters
  • Right-click your GPU > choose Uninstall device
  • Restart your system. Windows will reinstall the driver automatically

6. Perform a System Restore

If flickering started after a recent update:

  • Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore
  • Choose a restore point created before the issue began

7. Check for Background Application Conflicts

Some third-party apps (e.g., iCloud, Norton, IDT Audio) are known to interfere:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
  • If the Task Manager flickers, it may be a driver issue
  • If only the desktop flickers, it's often application-related
  • Uninstall or disable any non-essential apps to test

8. Run System File Checker and DISM

Corrupted system files can impact display behavior:

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin)
    Run:sfc /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If you need help identifying your system’s latest BIOS or display driver, I can help look that up for you. Let’s keep working through this until that screen flickering’s a thing of the past.
