Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Was closing some e-mails and the screen just changed to what looks like safe mode, but the computer is not in safe mode. Have tryed changing settings to higher numbers and all that does is make the screen look longer. Have updated windows. Tried to got to HP site to see if I could down load new drivers but see no way to do it. Very frustrating.

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP Pavilion p7-1026 Desktop PC and the screen resolution has changed and appears as though the PC is in safe mode. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

I did some research on this case and found that your PC contains an AMD ATI Radeon 4200 graphics card and the AMD website states the following information:

Products That Do Not Support Windows® 10

AMD Radeon™ HD 4000 Series products and older are not certified to support Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) 1.2 or higher and therefore, do not have driver support for Windows® 10.

The following is a list of graphics products that do not support Windows® 10:

  • ATI Radeon™ HD 4000 Series /ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4000 Series Graphics.

However, you may try to refer to the information mentioned in "Changing the size of text, display brightness, and screen resolution" from this HP article and check if that helps.

Also, you may uninstall the graphics drivers and restart the PC. During the restart, the Windows operating system will reinstall the basic graphics drivers:

  • Open the device manager.
  • Expand "Display adapters". Right click on the display drivers and select uninstall.
  • Close the device manager and restart the PC.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know how it goes. Cheers! 🙂
