Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Windows attempted to do an update and was unsuccessful.  After the computer Rebooted it will not let me sign on to HP simplepass. I had it set up for a 4 digit code but that only takes me to a confirm Windows password screen and I cannot get past that. I do not know the Windows password or if I ever set one up.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.
