Came home to a solid red screen. I powered off then on but now i have a blank screen. When i toggle the mouse the a small box in the top left corner flips between analog and digital. I unpluged the internet, speakers. I ensured monitor and other essential cords are secure but my screen is still black. Im an older woman not tech savvy at all and am very worried as all my photos of my childen through the past 10 years are on this desktop along with important documents.

Remove the AC power from the computer.

Press-and-hold the ON/OFF button for 10 seconds, or more.

Reconnect the AC power, and try to turn it on.

If nothing happens, take your computer to a qualified computer technician, for professional trouble-shooting.

The fault could be the power-supply, or the motherboard, or the disk-drive.

If the fault is with the power-supply, it can be replaced, inexpensively.

Replacing the motherboard is more extensive, and more expensive.

There do exist professional "Data Recovery Services", that can "rescue" your documents from a failed disk-drive.

But, if the computer really is TEN years old, it's time to replace it.

If you're on a budget, look at www.BestBuy.com for a "refurbished" computer, running Windows 10, for about $200 US.

It will be "beefy" enough to do what you want to do -- E-mail, web-surfing, YouTube, et cetera.

Thank you! I knew I should have backed up my images and documents being and old computer but it was working so well. The power tip did not work. I'll be taking it in to a shop to recover as much as possible then on to desktop shopping.
