Hello,
I have tried everything to fix the HP SpareKey recovery prompt that appears at every startup.

I am using an HP Omen 30L.

I have tried:

  • Resetting SpareKey security questions

  • Disabling SpareKey enrollment (but I cannot change it without resetting questions)

  • Restoring BIOS factory defaults

  • Performing basic BIOS security resets

The SpareKey recovery screen still appears every time I boot the computer.

The computer was purchased second-hand, so I do not have the original SpareKey recovery USB or enrollment setup.

Please help me completely remove or bypass the SpareKey boot prompt.

Thank you.

Hi @Asdf849,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Sorry for the inconvenience caused and don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Does the SpareKey prompt appear before Windows loads, or after the operating system starts?
  • Are you able to bypass the prompt and boot into Windows normally, or does it block you from logging in?
  • Have you set up any BIOS administrator or power-on passwords yourself, or are these still tied to the previous owner’s configuration?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Clear BIOS Security Settings
    • Enter BIOS Setup (usually by pressing F10 at startup).
    • Check under Security → System Security for SpareKey or password options.
    • If available, disable SpareKey or clear all BIOS passwords.
  2. Update BIOS Firmware
    • Sometimes older firmware versions can cause persistent prompts. Updating to the latest BIOS for your Omen 30L may reset or remove leftover SpareKey configurations.
  3. HP Support Assistant / HP Client Security Manager
    • If Windows loads, install HP Support Assistant or HP Client Security Manager. These tools may allow you to manage or remove SpareKey enrollment from within the OS.
  4. CMOS Reset
  • Power down, unplug the PC, and remove the CMOS battery for a few minutes. This can clear BIOS settings, though in some cases SpareKey data may remain stored in non-volatile memory.

I hope this helps.
