I have an HP Pavilion Desktop 595-p0xxx with a drive c: that is now full. There seems to be something that 60 gig that is taking up much of the space. Nothing shows up when I do a directory and no problem shows up when I do chkdsk. But there is something there that is taking up 60 gig. How do I find what it is and fix it?

Welcome to the HP forum. The model number posted has numbers that fill out the place of the xxx's in HP Pavilion Desktop 595-p0xxx. There are many models in that line. IE: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-595-p0000a/19390512/product-info
I picked several from that list - most seem to have a SSD and a conventional harddisk. Look in Disk Management to see just what is there. Each drive will have an explanation about what is available. In the c: drive will be allocated as to what each partition is. I suspect there will be that 60GB marked as Recovery, possibly.

Interesting that in the first post - "there is something there that is taking up 60 gig" I am curious in how you determined that.
There does not seem to be any indication of an abnormal condition on the Windows C: and there is no Recovery Partition using a large amount of room, either.
While the SSD is small and that could be causing some problems, there does not show anything out of the normal.
Here is the spec page for the 595-p0074
In the screen shot of Disk Management it shows 2.88 GB free on C: while you indicate "the desktop has 30 mb free", so something must still be using the SSD as storage. 128 GB is probably too small with how Windows is configured. The user can tell Windows to save data to the 1TB drive to free up space but it would probably still be needed to have some files moved to d: or change out the small SSD for a larger drive. Here is a guide to tell Windows where to save data
https://www.ghacks.net/2019/10/14/how-to-change-the-default-save-location-in-windows-10/
Also here is a nifty little app to move things to the other drive that will give you some free space on C:

@TheOldMan I don't know if it's already been done correctly, but I've already mentioned it twice!
