Microsoft Windows 11

Hey folks
If you're trying to install Windows on an HP system (especially All-in-One or 11th Gen Intel models) and your SSD isn’t showing up, this post is for you. I spent 12 full days trying everything. HP Recovery tools didn’t help, Intel removed the necessary drivers from their own packages, and every standard fix failed.

Here’s what finally worked:

  1. The root issue: Missing Intel VMD (Volume Management Device) drivers not just AHCI or RAID. Without these, your SSD won’t appear during install.

  2. The fix: Use a bootable ISO (Ventoy is great) that includes:

    • A proper version of Intel RST drivers that still includes VMD (not the neutered ones Intel currently distributes).

    • Boot into something like Gandalf’s WinPE and manually browse/load drivers during Windows Setup.

  3. Credit: Massive thanks to forum legend Paul your guidance cracked this wide open.

  4. Warning: HP and Intel don’t make this easy. VMD driver access is locked down or quietly removed. Shame on them.

If you're stuck in the same cycle, comment here and I’ll gladly share the exact method that worked.
