HP Slim Desktop 260-a010
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After the last two updates I now get a BLUE SCREEN labeled System 32 power shell.exe and it takes a very long time to close.

I get this scree every time I start my computer and it is getting very annoying to say the least.

Well lokes like I can't get the screen shot to copy or upload by photo.

It's a Blue screen and at the top it says System 32  then the end of the text it says power shell.exe.

At this point I am totally confused.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe

@Cromedome,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are getting a blue screen on startup.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

Two scenarios allow a PowerShell console to open during startup:

  • Either an installation file for any program that may be installed, or an App update service, etc is currently active and this would only be the case if you as a User chose to allow this in the first place, or a bundled Windows Service came with the original installation software for your program or other third-party programs.
  • Or, you have malware on your system attempting to clone the PowerShell Shell executable, to mask the fact it's active, in which case you'd need to clear your browser history and do a full scan of your computer with an antivirus and/or anti Malware program.

If you continue facing the issue, then do a clean boot and check.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Click Start, and type msconfig.
  2. Select System Configuration from the search results.
  3. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
  4. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click Open Task Manager.
  5. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, for each startup item, select the item and then click Disable.
  6. Close Task Manager.
  7. On the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, tap or click OK, and then restart the computer.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
