My desktop is having issues. I performed a system extensive test and the failed one was Hard Drive/SSD Optimized DST Check. I need help on how to get my computer operating again.

Hi @Wmbullard

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that failed Optimized DST Check means your hard drive or SSD is not passing HP’s hardware diagnostics and is likely failing. To get your desktop operating again, you’ll need to confirm the failure, secure your data, and replace the drive an reinstall the Operating system.

Backup Your Data

  • Preserve important files before attempting repairs.
  • If the drive still boots, copy files to an external drive or cloud storage.
  • If Windows won’t start, connect the drive externally to another PC using a SATA/USB adapter.
  • Prioritize documents, photos, and essential work files.

Check Drive Connections

  • Loose or poorly seated cables can mimic drive failure.
  • Power down → unplug desktop → open case
  • Ensure SATA and power cables are firmly connected.
  • Reseat the drive in its bay.
  • If available, try another SATA port or cable.
