Hi,
Just received a message from HP Support Assistant to install 'TFS - Windows 10 RE Recovery Manager Installer'. However there is no information on what this is, why it is necessary, the consequences of installing it or not or is it an update to existing installed software.
On pressing the ? it only says that 'This component is only for windows 10' , SoftPaq number: sp74124, Version: 2.00, Size: 1.82Mb. Not very helpful.
Please could this be clarified? I do not like installing software on my machine if I do not know what is is.
Kind regards.

I understand you are getting a message from HP Support Assistant to install TFS- Windows 10 RE Recovery manager on your HP PC. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Did it happen after a recent software update?
Have you tried to install this update and check if that helps?
Have you tried to Uninstall and reinstall the HP Support Assistant?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a hard reset on the PC:
Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:
-
If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.
If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.
-
With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.
-
With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.
-
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.
Next thing, I would suggest here is to go ahead and install the update, On updating the software this should not effect as this is to do with the HP Recovery manager update, If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall HP support Assistant from Control panel and programs and features and then uninstall it.
Once done restart the PC and then please click on this link to manually download and install this update from our HP support website, using this link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74124.exe
Answering to your question, regarding I do not like installing software on my machine if I do not know what is is? I would recommend it is recommended to go ahead and install it as it's an update for HP Recovery manager, The purpose of the Recovery drive is to store all the files needed to do an emergency recovery when the system becomes unstable.
I would also recommend you to update the Bios, and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.
Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Hi Jeet_Singh,
Thank-you for your reply. All I was really looking for was information on what this update was about. I didn't have any issues. However, as you mentioned, it was an update for the HP Recovery Manager so I installed it with no problem. A suggestion - it would be more helpful if HP gave more information on an update and why it is necessary rather than just offer it for installation. Thank-you.
