Hello HP Support Team,

I am using a Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop with Windows 11. Recently, whenever I start my laptop, I get the following message on boot screen:
“TPM Security Data Change Detected”
It says that a change has been detected in the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) data and asks me to either:
Press [Y] to Clear and Reset the TPM
Press [N] to Continue Booting
I did not replace any hardware like CPU or motherboard. The issue started suddenly, possibly after a BIOS/firmware update or Windows update.
I am also concerned because the warning mentions BitLocker recovery key requirements after resetting TPM. I do not want to lose access to my system or data.
Current situation:
Laptop boots normally when I press [N]
I have not reset the TPM yet
BitLocker status is unclear
I want to know the safest solution to permanently fix this issue
Please guide me on:
Why this TPM Security Data Change Detected message is appearing
Whether it is safe to reset TPM
How to avoid BitLocker lock issues before resetting TPM
Any BIOS or firmware fix available for this issue

Thank you

Hi  @Krushna_03,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I  understand how concerning it can be to see a TPM-related message during startup, especially when BitLocker and data security are involved. Let’s work through this together so you can feel confident about your system’s stability.

Here are a few steps you can try :

  1. Check BitLocker status
Open Control Panel → System and Security → BitLocker Drive Encryption.
Verify if BitLocker is enabled on your system drive. If it is, make sure you have your recovery key backed up (usually saved to your Microsoft account or printed during setup).
  2. Update BIOS/firmware
Visit HP Support Assistant or the HP Drivers & Downloads page https://support.hp.com/  for your model.
Install the latest BIOS update, as TPM warnings often appear after firmware changes.
  3. Clear TPM safely (only after confirming BitLocker recovery key is backed up)
Go to Windows Security → Device Security → Security processor details → Security processor troubleshooting.
Use the option to clear TPM from within Windows rather than at boot, which ensures BitLocker is properly managed.
  4. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
Restart your laptop and press F2 to access diagnostics.
Run a system test to confirm there are no hardware issues triggering the TPM alert.

This message usually appears after a BIOS update or firmware change that modifies TPM data. Updating BIOS and confirming BitLocker status often resolves the issue without needing to clear TPM.

I hope this helps.

Don't have Bitlocker key on account ? What to do

Hi @Krushna_03,

Thanks for your response.

If you don’t see your BitLocker recovery key saved to your Microsoft account, here are the steps you can take:

Check other locations where the key may have been saved

Look in your Microsoft account

If not there, check any USB drive or external storage you may have used when BitLocker was first enabled.

If your PC was set up by an organization (work or school, the IT administrator may have the key.

If the key cannot be found

Unfortunately, without the recovery key, the encrypted drive cannot be unlocked. This is by design to protect your data.

The only option in this case is to reinstall Windows and format the drive, which will erase all data on it.

I hope this helps.
