HP something. Does not say

Hi,

My computer was hacked or something happened to it. No idea what.

I've already gone to system diagnostics and everything seems ok on that side.

Did what it says on this page and also disabled the SATA  and wiped something.

https://support.hp.com/lt-en/document/c06471233

From the information I have available at this point, I apparently need to go bring up task manager and work from there.

However, task manager does not open.

Any suggestions?

@Lexa123

Telling us it was "hacked or something" doesn't provide us any of the detail information we need.

We need to know what you see on the screen when you try to start the PC.

If you're trying to restore the PC by accessing the Task Manager, that will not work.

WA Wood, a bit harsh, cut me some slack, it's the first time ever I'm doing this and by all means my level is 'computer for extra dummies'

I also gave some details of what I've 'done' on it so far and with the limited info I have that is what I think the problem is.

Also, fourth photo taken in a row trying to outsmart the phone (I'm not winning) , it keeps loading wrong.

I look forward to your recommendations.

Sorry -- did not mean to be harsh -- but "hacked or something" really does not tell us anything useful.

The screenshot you supplied is often due to a failing drive. So, let's check that first, because if it is failing, it would need to be replaced and there is no point then in doing anything else until we confirm that.

If your PC is new enough to support UEFI, you can use these steps to test the hard drive: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00439024

If not, to check the drive you have to follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu
3) Press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.
If the drive checks out OK, then report that and I can provide you options for reinstalling Windows on your PC.

Hi WA Wood. Think I managed to get to the point where I'm installing Windows.

Seems the touchpad does not work now.

Bought a wireless mouse.

We'll see.

Thanks for your suggestions so far.

Solved the issue.

Downloaded Windows on a USB (a friend sent me the link)

Used the mouse I bought to click arround (mousepad on laptop seems to be gone).

The laptop is now working.
