OMEN 870-213w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just received my Windows 10 Recovery Media for my OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 870-213w from HP.

I am able to run the recovery from the USB, but at the very end it gives me an error.

The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons:

I have tried disabling safe mode and quick boot and unplugged everything during the process (including mouse, keyboard, and monitor). But I still get this message after the recovery USB goes through the whole process.

Even though during the restarts I can see that there is a desktop and that the computer does have Windows installed again.

This is the output log. I think it has something to do with McAfee? Maybe the recovery image they sent me is broken?

Hi:

Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to help you with why the HP recovery media isn't working, but you can clean install W10 using the Media creation tool at the link below to create a bootable W10 USB installer.  You will need an 8 GB flash drive for this.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/omen-by-hp-870-200/13687063/model/17648887

By using the above approach you will have a working PC again, and I think it will run better than it ever did in the past.

If you're happy with the results, contact HP and see if you can get a refund for the recovery media that didn't work.

After many wasted hours of trying to get the recovery media to work, I ended up doing what you suggested and installing a blank copy of Windows 10.

I assume the recovery USB has an issue or something else is preventing it from completing the process correctly.

Very disappointing to spend $40 on a recovery USB that does not work.

On the bright side, there is no longer any bloatware on the computer.

No way I would be leaving $40 on the table...
